Hi all! I know it's been a while, but here is a post on my most recent venture. Amazon has had a grocery system in place for a little while, but they have recently introduced Prime Now, which for Amazon Prime users can order certain items, (like food and such) and have them delivered that same day. If you choose a later time in the day, it's free, but one-hour delivery will cost you $7.99 and sometimes the one-hour delivery is not available. You order through the app, (they have it for both Apple and Droid), and you login to it as you would your Amazon account.
I decided to give a try. I'm usually running around on weekends grocery shopping so this helps quite a bit. Shockingly so, they even have better prices than some major retailers. The only thing is if you are not buying but a couple of items, you'd come out better simply by going to the store because they do ask you to tip your driver. So make sure you have a nice list when ordering. The downside for right now is that they are still limited on what they sell, but I know the more people use the service, they'll expand how much product they carry.
So depending on your order, you may also have to be home when they arrive. Since I had perishable foods they had to go straight into the refrigerator.
So as you can see I chose to have my delivery for between 6:00pm and 8:00pm. What I really like is that when your driver leaves the fulfillment center, they sent you a text message and on a map you can track your driver to see exactly where they are. There was never a guessing game since I could follow his course. Now you are probably wondering what the box is at the bottom with the warning label. Well that was the only hiccup in my delivery. It was a box containing dry ice which the guy who brought my food was not supposed to leave it with me. When I called Amazon as instructed on the box, they were supposed to send someone to pick it up, It's now a week later and it's still sitting on my porch.
Part of the reason I decided to order through Prime Now was because they were running a special. First time users of Prime Now received $10 off their first purchase and with a separate code could get a free box of chocolate with purchase. So after was said and done, I purchased about $50 worth of food for about $20, including tip. Now that is not an all the time thing, but it was worth it to give it a try.
So here's what I got...
I know it doesn't seem like I bought a lot, but things add up. But I must admit I did grab a steal. The chocolate was free and the mascara was only $1.60 so I bought two! It usually retails for $6.99. Yeah there was no way I was passing that up! For the most part the prices were comparable, but like I said some prices beat even the retailers claiming to have the lowest prices. And for my non-dairy, Vegan and Vegetarian friends, they didn't leave us out at all. And since they are adding new items all the time, I've noticed that they have a growing selection of items that compete with the higher prices we have to pay in the stores.
There is nothing like free chocolate, especially dark chocolate! But, unfortunately, even the dark chocolate mix contained milk so the other people in the house enjoyed it on my behalf. But that's okay because I had a backup plan...my Haribo gummy bears!
And of course tonight I checked to see if they had more and they were gone! That made me very sad, but I know where to get more.
So all in all Amazon Prime Now is a great service so far. I'd definitely use it again, but they need to restock the Haribo gummy bears before I do!
